3rd international conference of the UNESCO chair,

Rectors and presidents in charge of the different francophone higher institutions members of the Unitwin network will meet in Bordeaux (27, 28 and 29 May 2019) in order to take stock of education, training and research activities on sustainable development during the three years since the March 2016 conference and to define the 2019-2022 strategy of the chair in association with its different private and public partners. The theme of the conference will be: "Education for sustainable development, a transition lever for our societies"

The UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) will be co-organized in 2014 by UNESCO and the Government of Japan on the occasion of the end of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. It has the following four objectives:

  • Celebrating a Decade of Action
  • Reorienting Education to Build a Better Future for All
  • Accelerating Action for Sustainable Development
  • Setting the Agenda for ESD beyond 2014

The conference will be structured around 4 plenary sessions, 4 clusters of workshops and 3 sets of side events.

The agenda for ESD beyond 2014 will refer to a "Global Action Programme" in five points:

  • Integrate ESD into international and national policies in education and sustainable development.
  • Promote whole‐institution approaches to ESD at all levels and in all settings.
  • Strengthen the capacity of educators, trainers and other change agents to become learning facilitators for ESD.
  • Support youth in their role as change agents for sustainable development through ESD
  • Accelerate the search for sustainable development solutions at the local level through ESD.

French and French speaking institutions of Higher education and research are coordinated in order to present results and recommandations during a two-hour side event and participate in different workshops.

Michel RICARD, head of the UNESCO chair, have been commissionned by the "Conférence des Présidents d'Université" (CPU), by the "Conference des Directeurs des Grandes Écoles (CGE) and by the Rector of the "Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie" (AUF) to achieve a joint document.
